Newbies February 2015

21st March 2015

Newbies_2015_02My first newbie post since May 2014. That’s probably a good thing since this means you didn’t really get to see how crazy I went last year. This year also started … well, it was my birthday in January, so what did you expect?! Since I’m lazy, I’m not going to talk about all the books I got in January but jump right into February.

With 15 books in total, two of which are only for my shelves, February was a decent month. I even managed to achieve my goal in the TBR Reduction Extreme challenge, because besides reading 12 first reads, I also got rid of a couple of ebooks I really wasn’t interested in anymore.

  1. Cinder (The Lunar Chronicles, #1) by Marissa Meyer
[dt. Wie Monde so silbern (Luna-Chroniken, #1)]
  2. Scarlet (The Lunar Chronicles, #2) by Marissa Meyer
[dt. Wie Blut so rot (Luna-Chroniken, #2)]
  3. Fairest (The Lunar Chronicles, #3.5) by Marissa Meyer

Of course I already owned the Lunar Chronicles! What were you thinking, silly?! However, I owned the UK paperback editions and Fairest (which I haven’t read yet but I’m really looking forward to) won’t be published to match. Since I’m pretty sure I’ll reread the books time and time again in the future, I thought hardcovers would be a good investment. In case you’re wondering, Cress arrived in January. Now I have a set of the first three novels in paperback to sell/swap. Anyone interested? They are in really good condition.

  4. The Book of Lost Tales, Part 1 (The History of Middle-earth, #1) by J.R.R. Tolkien & Christopher Tolkien
[dt. Das Buch der verschollenen Geschichten, Teil 1]
  5. The Book of Lost Tales, Part 2 (The History of Middle-earth, #2) by J.R.R. Tolkien & Christopher Tolkien
[dt. Das Buch der verschollenen Geschichten, Teil 2]

Speaking of swapping: I actually owned the German editions but they are huge, because besides the German translation, they often also include the original English texts, and I really need the space. Furthermore, I wanted a complete set of The History (well, I don’t have a copy of the Index but I don’t intend to buy one anytime in the future).

  6. Zweilicht by Nina Blazon
    [LT: Two-Light]
  7. Der Ring des Salomo (Bartimäus, #0) by Jonathan Stroud
[OT: The Ring of Solomon (Bartimaeus, #0)]

When I was in Munich, Steffi @ SemaVI and I spend the whole afternoon in bookshops looking and talking about books. I stayed strong for so long but when we at the very last circled the bargain tables I couldn’t help myself. I had to get these two books. The first one, because Shiku told me I need to read it, the second one because I own the trilogy. They’re both hardcovers and were really cheap, so ….

  8. So weiß wie Schnee (Lumikki, #2) by Salla Simukka
[ET: As White As Snow (The Snow White Trilogy, #2)]

It’s not my usual type of book but I loved the first, really looking forward to this one.

  9. City of Heavenly Fire (Die Chroniken der Unterwelt, #6) by Cassandra Clare
[OT: City of Heavenly Fire (The Mortal Instruments, #6)]

Well, now I have them all. This means I should probably get started on the second half of the series…

  10. The Sin Eater’s Daughter (The Sin Eater’s Daughter, #1) by Melinda Salisbury

The cover’s so pretty! I really hope I’ll enjoy it. The concept sounds pretty interesting.

  11. A Darker Shade of Magic (A Darker Shade of Magic, #1) by V.E. Schwab

Still haven’t read a single one of her books but I just keep buying them. She just seems like such a nice person on Twitter and the books are always gorgeous, so why not? I’ll read them eventually.

  12. Black Dove, White Raven by Elizabeth Wein

Finally! The original pub date was summer 2014. 9 months and a cover change later, it finally arrived. This is probably the first time I don’t mind the change (yet). Originally, it was in the fashion of Code Name Verity and Rose Under Fire but the font was a dark green and it really didn’t fit and was rather ugly. I really like the yellow and orange though. Fortunately, I already have the pretty older editions of the former two books because they look hideous with the flashy colours.

  13. Weihnachts-Bastelbuch: Basteln und backen mit PennyGirl by PennyGirl (Ed.)
[LT: Christmas Activities Book: Crafting and Baking with PennyGirl]
  14. Chicas Geschichte by Malin Stehn
    [LT: Chica’s Story]
  15. Klickertraining mit deinem Pferd (Pferdewissen, #5) by Paulina Tufvesson
[LT: Clicker Training with Your Horse (Horse Facts, #5)]

A couple of books for my PonyClub/Pony/PennyGirl collection. Unfortunately, they stopped publishing and I’ve no idea what’s going to happen now. It’s really the end of an era. I still have to get three books to complete my collection. I hope it won’t take too long.
