Today is actually the Top Ten Tuesday Freebie but instead of coming up with my own topic, I’d like to give you the Top Ten Books Dealing with Tough Subjects which was the theme on May 14. I’d written about three quarters of the post when a friend persuaded me to watch Iron Man 3 with her and therefore never came to finish it in time. So here we go …

So in April, we have a game which does not need such extensive explanations as the last one since it is pretty universal: Bingo! I know that it varies from game to game, but Crini’s version of bingo is played with a card of 4×4 fields. For those who don’t know, depending on the topic of the game, the fields carry numbers (original form of Bingo), symbols, words, etc. For example, we had a teacher buzzword bingo in school using a teacher’s favourite expressions. Now, because this is a reading challenge, the fields carry criteria the books we choose to read have to meet. The goal is to read four books that form a horizontal, vertical, or diagonal row …

Ich breche generell keine Bücher ab, da sich bei mir das Prinzip festgesetzt hat, jedes Buch zu beenden, um ihm die Chance zu geben, mich doch noch zu überzeugen. Es könnte ja irgendwann besser werden, auch wenn das bisher nie wirklich der Fall war. Trotzdem kann ich es einfach nicht über mich bringen, ein Buch abzubrechen. Ich hätte ein ganz komisches Gefühl dabei. Schließlich könnte ich etwas verpassen. So kann ich dann hinterher zumindest mit gutem Gewissen sagen, dass ein Buch totaler Schrott war. Und manchmal sind Bücher ja auch so schlecht, dass sie zumindest unterhaltsam sind . . .

Gosh, I had a really hard time to decide on only ten covers. At first, I wanted to do a top ten for horse novels and one for all other genres, but that felt like cheating. So I split it up into two top fives. I’m quite glad that not all of the German books I’ve read have covers on Goodreads or else I would never have been able to decide.

Im Prinzip lässt sich in jedem Buch zumindest eine Person finden, mit der ich gerne mal mindestens ein Schwätzchen halten würde . . .

Dieses Wochenende habe ich zur Abwechslung mal wieder etwas mehr weggeschafft. Das bedeutet außerdem, dass meine utopische Leseliste für Mai gar nicht mal mehr so unmöglich ausschaut.
