Newbies May 2014

14th June 2014

Who needs wrap-ups when one can have newbie posts, right? Riiiight? [The wrap-ups are coming. Winterish.] Truth be told, I wouldn’t be surprised if most of you are already pretty annoyed by my excessive purchase behaviour and these posts. I kind of feel like one of those BookTubers who have massive book hauls every (other) week or so, bragging about their new pretty books without ever reading them. I just realised that’s pretty much me – only I write monthly posts.

It’s just that at some point in the last couple of years, I turned from being an obsessive reader into an obsessive collector. I neither suddenly dislike reading – it’s still the hobby I spend the most time on – nor did I just start collecting books out of the blue – it’s been going on pretty much since I started reading. However, a couple of days back when I went on a book buying spree because I hadn’t gotten a single book so far this month, I had an enlightening exchange. Over dinner, I mentioned that I had been doing my favourite thing. My Dad immediately asked me, whether I had been reading. I was really surprised at myself. For basically most of my life, my favourite pastime had been reading. I’m still not sure whether I’m comfortable with both my word choice and its subtext. I hope it was just the heat of the moment.

Anyways, let me start bragging about the books I probably won’t be reading in a very long time …

Newbies 2014_05

  1. Schwere Zeiten für Julia (Wahre Pferdegeschichten) by Margot Berger
    [LT: Hard Times for Julia]
  2. Kein Abschied für immer (Wahre Pferdegeschichte) by Margot Berger
    [LT: No Farewell Forever]
  3. Auf der Suche nach Calido (Wahre Pferdegeschichten) by Margot Berger
    [LT: Searching for Calido]

I got these three at work. They were part of a box of sorted out books and the other two interns and I decided to grab some of them. Naturally, I went for the horse novels. That was the point when my fellow interns decided that I’m mental. You should have seen the look they gave each other. I was a little hurt. They didn’t even know me yet but I was immediately the crazy girl. Fortunately, they came to accept that I collect horse novels.

  4. The Name of the Star (Shades of London, #1) by Maureen Johnson
[dt. Die Schatten von London (Die Schatten von London, #1)]

One of the three novels I bought from Lisa of Books & Senses. I wanted to have it for ages so I just had to jump at the chance.

  5. Railsea by China Miéville
    [dt. Das Gleismeer]

I read his The City & the City a couple of years back for one of my university seminars. It turned out to be the best read of said seminar and one of my favourites of my studies. When I found this one for just €2 at Hugendubel, I just had to get it. It sounds strange and crazy but I’m really looking forward to reading it.

  6. Vergiss mein nicht! (Vergiss mein nicht, #1) by Kasie West
[OT: Pivot Point (Pivot Point, #1)]

Another one I got at work. And there are so many more I want to get. These discounts are just too good to be true.

  7. Feuerfee by Pamela Kavanagh
    [OT: Fire Fairy]

For the PonyClub/Pony/Pennygirl collection. I really enjoyed her other novels. There’s nothing about a good ghost/mystery/fantasy element in a horse novel.

  8. Fellow: Freundschaft auf Probe by Sabine Giebken
    [LT: Fellow: Friendship on Trial]

For the PonyClub/Pony/Pennygirl collection. This will probably turning into a series, if I interpret the title correctly.

  9. The Falconer (The Falconer, #1) by Elizabeth May
    [dt. Die Feenjägerin]

This one’s been out in the UK for quite some time now but I just had to get the gorgeous American cover. It also sounds pretty awesome.

  10. We Were Liars by E. Lockhart

That’s pretty much Ric‘s fault. Since I owed her a contemporary anyway because I “forced” her into reading A Game of Thrones (best move everrrr and she surely didn’t regret it), I chose this one because everyone’s raving about it. It’s going to be our Goodreads group read for the last half of June so I’m even going to read it soon.

  11. Drei Wünsche und ein dunkler Fluch by Isabelle Merlin
    [OT: Three Wishes]

This one’s another one I got from Lisa. When I first saw it in the programme preview in 2011, it immediately grabbed my attention. I had almost forgotten about it when I saw it on her sales list.

  12. Der Fluch von Scarborough Fair by Nancy Werlin
    [OT: Impossible (Impossible, #1)]

    Same goes for this one.

  13. Die Nebelelfen (Die Saga von Thale, #0) by Monika Felten
[LT: The Mist Fays (The Saga of Thale, #0)]

This one was another cheap remaindered book. I still don’t know in which order I’m going to read this series since this one was the last to be published but it’s set prior to the original trilogy.

  14. Just One Night (Just One Day, #2.5) by Gayle Forman

I didn’t really like the ending of Just One Year. I wanted to have at least one more chapter. Just one more and I would have been a happy girl. Instead, I got this.

  15. Crossing the Line (Pushing the Limits, #1.5) by Katie McGarry

I went through my series-to-buy shelf and added the books to my Amazon wishlist. That’s when I stumbled over this one. It was really cheap so I just got it.

  16. Red at Night by Katie McGarry

Basically, I remembered a couple of people reading it and after I got the e-book above, I decided to look for this one, too. When I found out it was for free, well, you didn’t expect me to ignore that, did you?

  17. You Are Here by Liz Fichera

This one was another one of the free novellas which are apparently part of a series about women who started charities.

    • Du kennst mich dafür schon zieeeemlich gut xD !

  • Oh, Pivot Point! *.* Damit wünsche ich dir ganz viel Spaß! xD
Hast du We Were Liars schon gelesen? ^^
Just One Night fand ich echt süß – auch wenn ich es dumm fand, dass es nicht von vornherein beim Ende von Just One Year dabei war. Na ja, besser als nichts.

    • Das ist aber gerne Rics Schuld :p
also los!

    • Daaaanke!
Nein, bisher noch nicht. Hatte dann doch immer irgendwie keine so rechte Lust bzw. was anderes zu lesen.
