Easter Haul

Buying books is both my fervent passion and my worst vice. Sometimes, I even wonder whether it is not an addiction or an illness of some sorts, because I’m constantly buying – much more than I will probably ever be able to read. But, you know, they look so pretty on the shelves!

Normally, I’m trying to buy in reasonable masses. However, if I find an excuse with which I can keep my conscience quiet, I forget all good resolutions. That’s what happened in April, because I thought that Easter would be a great excuse to buy tonnes of new books. Well, it’s my one and only treat after all.

Newbies 2013_04 Amazon

  1. Where She Went (If I Stay, #2) by Gayle Forman

I got the first one for Christmas, read it in January, and decided that I also want to read the second one, although its predecessor wasn’t able to blow me away. The fact that I kept hearing this LOST noise each time we jumped back didn’t help at all.

  2. Five Flavors of Dumb by Antony John

Originally bought for the German Reading Circle group read in April, in which I epically failed to participate. But it sounds really interesting and I’m going to read it soon I’ve already read it and extremely enjoyed it.

  3. Heist Society (Heist Society, #1) by Ally Carter

I saw some reviews of the Heist Society series by my favourite BookTubers. They all seem to love it and since it has an interesting ring to it, I thought to check it out.

  4. Easy by Tammara Webber

Until a few weeks ago, I was totally oblivious that there was a new genre called New Adult of which malicious gossip has it that it’s basically YA plus sex. Well, that wouldn’t be all too bad, would it now? I really don’t know what’s considered YA and what NA, but this one seems to be one of the more important representatives of the new genre and since I liked the blurb I decided to try my luck.

  5. Partials (Partials, #1) by Dan Wells

I haven’t read a book by Dan Wells so far, but all my GR friends are loving it and since I already had it in my hands in Ireland but decided in favour of another book, I’ll give it a go.

  6. The Archived (The Archived, #1) by Victoria Schwab

This sounds just soooo good and has a great cover. The blurb reminds me a teensy tiny little bit of the Doctor Who episodes Silence in the Library and Forest of the Dead. I wouldn’t mind at all if it is similarly mesmerising.

  7. The Darkest Minds (The Darkest Minds, #1) by Alexandra Bracken

    I’ve heard that it’s kind of like X-Men – well, I’m sold.

Newbies 2013_04 TBD

  1. The Nightmare Affair (The Arkwell Academy, #1) by Mindee Arnett

This is the second book that I bought and also failed to read for the German Reading Circle group read in April. I’m planning on reading it in May instead. So far, I’ve heard that it’s an easy but enjoyable read.

  2. Slide (Slide, #1) by Jill Hathaway

I had it on my to-buy list and it happened to be cheap.

  3. How to Lead a Life of Crime by Kirsten Miller

Well, I’m not really into that kind of genre, but I so can’t wait to read this one. It sounds totally awesome. Side note: the school is supposed to be based on a real institution and the hardcover edition is compromised (that’s how printing mistakes are marketed nowadays – not sure whether I like this approach. At first, I was kind of panicking that my book would be messed up but it turned out that it’s not much that is wrong or missing).

  4. Debutantes by Cora Harrison

I do judge books by their covers, which are therefore quite often the decisive factor when it comes to me buying books. However, I normally don’t do solely cover motivated purchases. This one, however, is one of these rare cases, but only because it cost next to nothing. It’s so prrrreatty and although I’ve already forgotten what it’s about, the story seemed vaguely interesting.

  5. Night School (Night School, #1) by C.J. Daugherty

I saw the German edition a few weeks ago and since this was up for a good price, I decided to check it out.

  6. Chime by Franny Billingsley

Someone on Goodreads mentioned it and I decided that it sounds thrilling, so I just bought it. I had to go with the hardcover edition because I can’t stand the cover of the paperback.

Newbies 2013_04 Rebuy

  1. Vor dem Frühstück Pferde füttern (Der Schwalbenhof, #1) by Uta Over
[LT: Feeding Horses Before Breakfast (Swallow Farm, #1)]
  2. Ponys bis fast in die Küche (Der Schalbenhof, #3) by Uta Over
[LT: Ponies almost in the Kitchen (Swallow Farm, #3)]
  3. Fohlen rund ums Haus (Der Schwalbenhof, #4) by Uta Over
[LT: Foals around the House (Swallow Farm, #4)]
  4. Im Tölt durch den Sommer (Der Schwalbenhof, #5) by Uta Over
[LT: Tölting through the Summer (Swallow Farm, #5)]

This is more or less the only old SchneiderBuch series of which I had not a single book on my shelves and since they were all really, really cheap… Unfortunately, they didn’t have the second book in stock so I have to see whether I can find it somewhere else soon.

  5. Ein Pflegepferd für Julia (Julia, #1) by Christiane Gohl
[LT: A Horse to Look After for Julia (Julia, #1)]

I already have a couple of books of this series but the first one was missing and I never read a series out of order. I did that a long time ago but stopped because it’s only confusing. So now, I finally have the first one and could start but knowing myself, it is going to lie on the TBR pile for ages to come. Since it didn’t even cost €1, that’s not really a problem.

  6. Pferdezauber: Abendstern by Alison Lester
    [OT: The Snow Pony]

This is a book that I’ve read a couple of years ago. Since I have the rest of this semi-series, I wanted to buy it to put it on my shelf next to the others.

  7. Neues vom Ponyclub (Ponyclub, #2-4) by Josephine Pullein-Thompson
[OT: Pony Club Team (West Barsetshire, #2) / The Radney Riding Club (West Barsetshire, #3)]

I recently found out that the German publisher messed up this series by changing the order. I already have the other omnibus edition (1, 4 and 5 of the original series) and now I finally have 2 and 3 (the German publisher split them into three books, so that the German series has 6 instead of 5 books). I hate when they are doing this. They also totally messed up Farley’s Black Stallion series and Bryant’s Saddle Club series.

  8. Reiterfreundinnen – einfach unzertrennlich by Harriet Buchheit
[LT: Riding Friends – Just Inseperable]
  9. Reiten wie der Wirbelwind by Harriet Buchheit
    [LT: Riding like a Whirlwind]

I adore Harriet Buchheit. She writes just beautiful and often heartbreaking horse novels that are more realistic than most – at least not everything works out perfectly for most of her protagonists.

  10. Hexenfluch by Lynn Raven
    [LT: Witch Curse]

I love Lynn Raven! So far, I’ve only read her three latest books (excluding this one, of course), but I really want to get my hands on all of her books. I love her writing style, her stories, and especially her characters. Her books are not flawless, but I just love them.

  11. The Dark Divine (The Dark Divine, #1) by Bree Despain

I wanted to check out this series for a very long time but not as badly as to pay the full price.

  12. Vampire Academy (Vampire Academy, #1) by Richelle Mead
  13. Frostbite (Vampire Academy, #2) by Richelle Mead
  14. Shadow Kiss (Vampire Academy, #3) by Richelle Mead
  15. Blood Promise (Vampire Academy, #4) by Richelle Mead

I’m so happy to finally have at least the first four books of this series. I heard so much good stuff about them and since they are shooting the movie at the moment, it’s about time that I start reading this series.

 Newbies 2013_04 BetterWorldBooks

  1. A Time to Die (One Last Wish, #1) by Lurlene McDaniel
  2. Dawn Rochelle: Four Novels (Dawn Rochelle, #1-4) by Lurlene McDaniel

I love Lurlene McDaniel’s novels although they always break my heart. I already have 19 of her books but I really want to get them all. The first one is the first book in a series of which there are quite a few volumes published in German, but not this one. The second one is an omnibus edition of which I already have the first one. It was probably my first Lurlene McDaniel novel and since I loved it so very much, I wanted to get the rest of the series. This omnibus was much cheaper than buying 2-4 separately.

Additional Newbies

  1. Bis in die Ewigkeit by Meg Cabot et al.
    [OT: Prom Nights From Hell]

I don’t really know why I bought. Must have been the price.

  2. Watership Down by Richard Adams

I had to read it for my fantasy seminar and loved it to pieces.

  3. The Knife of Never Letting Go (Chaos Walking, #1) by Patrick Ness

It’s all Crini’s fault! Well, and the new editions are just awfully pretty.

  4. Loreley by Kai Meyer

I got this one in an antiquarian bookshop for just €0.75 and it still looks like new although it’s a little yellowed.

  5. Kissed by an Angel by Elizabeth Chandler

I got this in the same shop and I really loved the three Chandler novels I’ve read so far so I decided to buy it.

  6. If I Should Die (Revenants, #3) by Amy Plum

I still have to read the second one, but I had it pre-ordered anyway.

    • Also mein Konto fand das total badass xD !
